Who is this dude?
My career as a cinematographer is rooted in my teens. That's when I first fell in love with photography. Starting out with a still camera, I took tens of thousands of photographs during high school and college. Then I saw someone use a Video Toaster—the latest video editing technology at the time—and I was blown away. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of using video and film to tell a story.
Now with more than 19 years of professional experience in the video production industry, I love it as much as ever. My early background with still photography gave me an appreciation for composition and the power it can bring to a shot. As a director of photography, I build on that experience, looking for the best shot every time.
I'm also addicted to cool things, especially those that use electricity. Steadicam caught my attention in an American Cinematographer magazine when I was 15 years old. Years later I purchased my own rig and attended a Steadicam workshop put on by the Tiffen Corporation.
Keeping up with this ever-changing industry can be challenging, but it's something I enjoy. Being part of the creative process and helping to bring a concept to life is a large part of what excites me. More than that, I love getting to know the people on each job.
